A trip down the memory lane

It all began with a loud shrill cry
“Beware, the world! Here I come
Bear with me, for this lifetime
My journey has just begun”

Everything was so new, the little one that I was
I could sleep all day, without a pause
But at night my brain would work overtime 🙂
The learning had started, a process so fine…

Then I learnt to keep my head stable, and babbled my first sound
An amazing period of discovery, and joy all around
The lips got their curves right, though it took a while
Soon the milk teeth began to appear, I got my toothy smile

In no time I was mobile, crawling by day, soaking in the sunlight
The eyes twinkled naughty, as I kept awake my parents at night

Time flew, so many seasons got done
And by the time I was one
I could walk, and dreamed to run….
Said my first word “Papa”, talking was fun! 🙂

All too soon, I grew out of the sweet phase of infancy
Developing emotions, discovering new sides to me
Before too long I’d make new friends, as school began,
Playschool was pure joy, we laughed and played and sang…

And then, I learnt to read and write,
Life wouldn’t now be the same, try as I might

Thank God we didn’t have mobiles those days,
To keep one busy there were sweeter ways

Nervous on my first day at school,
I was trying hard to look cool…
But as I left dad’s hand, I looked up and cried
“Sunny boy, all is well, it’ll be awesome” he tried

Looking back, school indeed was cool,
It gets much hotter ahead trust me,
Life jolts you away one day…
From the wonderful world of fantasy!

Growing up was fun, made some cute little mistakes
But then those weren’t the years of high stakes

I still remember, forgot my bag to school one day
Merrily carrying my tiffin in hand, chirping away 🙂
Or the date with the Princi (principal)….for being always late
Or sharing food with friends, from each other’s tiffins we ate!

Comparing marks with others, fighting for that extra one
Until the teacher shouted at me for pestering, I wouldn’t be done
Back home, my parents found dealing with me harder and harder
As I got dumber, while appearing smarter and smarter 🙂
I’d resent all advice then, well, I still do
Except, maybe, from a chosen few

Soon I hit the teens, emotions beginning to swell
The pimples on my face, from a distance you could tell
Height shot up overnight, though not as much as I’d like
Seemed nothing great about me, just an average child

And then came the year of fear, my first brush with the boards
80%+ achieved, maybe not good enough to beat the admission hoards
No second thought given though, Science it was,
Looking back, maybe I should have given the decision a think, a pause…

I graduated in Telecom Engineering, few years down the line
The nervous teens I had left behind,
Now was time for the corporate grind…
A boring desk job though not even on my mind…

After 4 beautiful years of full income and no responsibility,
It was time to learn again…
I got married and started my MBA both in the same year
Talk of responsibility, my first kid was born the very next year…

Kanishk my prince, is my blessing in disguise
He’s fast growing up to be both charming and wise

After 8 long years of praying and waiting, had my second one
I still remember the day Jivika was born…
A breeze of fresh air, dollops of cute smiles
With her naughty antics time just flies…

It has been a run all these years, never looked back
Sometimes I wish though I could, I really do…
“Gosh! Look at all these memories return…
It has wings, trust me, time just flew!”

Even as I was enjoying life’s treasures so fine
Never knew when I grew up, 1 day at a time
